Launched in 2016, The ALI Adviser is intended to inform readers about the legal topics and issues examined in many of The American Law Institute’s current and recently completed projects. Posts on The ALI Adviser are written by ALI project participants, ALI members, and outside sources.
The Adviser recently underwent updates as part of the second century redesign initiative. Updates included a new color palette, primary font, and overall modernization to align with the Institute’s new visual guidelines. In particular, the green color is inspired by ALI’s Principles of the Law. Principles are primarily addressed to legislatures, administrative agencies, or private actors, and often take the form of best practices for either private or public institutions. They can also be addressed to courts when an area of law is so new that there is little established law. Much like the Principles, the Adviser‘s goal is to share the Institute’s work to an audience beyond the court.
